Understanding UI vs UX: Why Both Are Crucial for Your App?

Design & UX08 Apr 2026

The abbreviations UI and UX are often used interchangeably, and frequently considered the same thing by many founders. In reality, although they work hand-in-hand, they serve entirely different and crucial roles regarding your app or website's performance.

What is UI (User Interface)?

In simple terms, UI covers all visual elements that allow users to interact with a product. UI includes aesthetics: designated color palettes, typography, icons, transition animations, and button layouts.

Imagine a car. The UI is the vibrant paint job, the smoothly glowing dashboard, the leather steering wheel, and its modern instrument panels. UI's job is to please the eye and make your product feel premium.

What is UX (User Experience)?

On the contrary, UX focuses on the journey or experience of using that product—whether it's intuitive, efficient, and successfully solves customer problems.

Back to the car analogy. UX is how comfortable it feels to sit in it, how smoothly it maneuvers through a curve, and whether the volume dial is easily reachable while you focus on driving. If a car is gorgeous (great UI) but incredibly hard to drive (terrible UX), people won't want to drive it again.

Why Do You Need Both?

Consider an e-commerce checkout. If the 'Buy' button has amazing contrast and beautiful shadows (UI), but buyers have to get through 7 difficult pages just to pay (bad UX), they will abandon their carts. Conversely, a super seamless checkout process (great UX) that looks like a shady website from the 90s (bad UI) will trigger suspicion around your store's security.

Conclusion

UI and UX are an inseparable mandatory investment if you want your product to succeed and stick around in users' hearts long-term. AppByRic Studio always designs every website and app with profound UX research, coated with modern UI ready to spoil your customers' eyes.
